Four Contractors Pre-Qualified For Cookeville PD Headquarters

A special committee has recommended qualifying four general contractors interested in constructing the new Cookeville Police headquarters.

Police Chief Randy Evans said City Council will finalize the qualification process Thursday before seeking bids.

“We would then contact them and ask them to bid,” Evans said. “The bids would be due Aug. 1. Then we would bring that back on the Aug. 12 work session, and then on Aug 15 ask the council to select [the bid].”

Evans presented the contractors during Monday’s city council work session.

The four contractors pre-qualified by the committee were Sain Construction Company of Machester, W&O Construction of Livingston, T.W. Frierson Contractor, Inc. of Nashville, and J. Cumby Construction of Cookeville.

According to Evans, 10 general contractors picked-up information packets from the city when bids first opened June 7. Six of those 10 submitted qualifications, with J&S Construction, of Cookeville, and Mid-State Construction, of Livingston, not being selected by the committee.

Cookeville City Council will consider authorizing the qualified contractors to submit bids during Thursday’s meeting at 5:30 p.m.
