Fentress County Veterans Service Officer Jeff Tinch set to retire.
Tinch has served as the county’s veterans liaison for the past ten years. Tinch said he is retiring because he simply felt like it was time to do so.
“I’m getting up there a little bit in age,” Tinch said. “I’m not over the hill yet I’m just looking to go out and do something different and being able to enjoy my life a little bit. It’s time to let somebody younger to come in and take the position on and make the office theirs.”
Tinch said he plans to retire in May but will serve until the county can find his replacement. Tinch said the best part of his job was being able to help the Fentress County veterans and their families.
“Overall the last ten years has been highly rewarding,” Tinch said. “It’s something I will look back on and there are always a few cases that you look back on and say there I remember that case or when they come up to you and they thank you. You know thank you for what you did for me and that’s rewarding too because it’s not just a job sometimes. It changes people’s lives.”
Tinch said he has served the Fentress County community since he retired from the military in 2006 which was well before the county commission hired him to take over as the veterans service officer.
