Fentress Food Bank Back On Solid Ground

The Fentress County Food Bank is back on solid ground after a plea to resident this fall.

Director Art Kufrovich said the food pantry began delivering food in 1983 out of borrowed buildings.

“That wasn’t really good because people would tell us that would have to be out in two weeks,” Krufrovich said. “We built us a building in 1996. We raised the money and the county gave us a lease on the land.”

The original building is still located on Fairgrounds Road and serves an average of 100 people per week.

“Money is always a challenge and we rely almost entirely on local donations,” Krufrovich said.

Krufrovich said the food bank is able to save some money by purchasing food from the Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee.

A local food drive the past fall has helped keep a steady supply of food at the food bank.
