Fall Creek Falls Park Builds New Bridge On Woodland Trail

Fall Creek Falls Woodland Trail has been repaired after flood waters washed away an existing bridge last year.

Assistant Park Manager Robert Becker said visitors can now safely cross Cane Creek on the park’s most popular trail.

“Our maintenance team is really the heart of this project,” Becker said. “What they did was they built these huge concrete abutments and laid telephone poles and built steps. It’s a fantastic new bridge.”

Becker said the new bridge was built a couple of feet higher to avoid future wash outs. Becker said thanks to fundraising by the state park’s Trail Pack, supporters paid for half of the building cost.

“After we got all that done, we were able to go back and get some grant funding through the Tennessee State Parks Trail Pack,” Becker said. “That grant allowed us about $2,500 to spend towards that bridge.”

The program pays for the materials and man power needed to maintain trails. Becker said the new bridge also has a QR code for visitors to make a donation while crossing.

“The Woodland trail is about a 2 and a half mile loop that starts over at the nature center,” Becker said. “It will take you over to Fall Creek Falls. You’ll cross over Raccoon Creek and cross the new trail bridge going over Cane Creek. It’s a beautiful trail.”
