Livingston’s downtown sidewalk program has received notice from TDOT to enter the final design stage.
Livingston Downtown Revitalization Chairman Ray Evans said the town faced delays with TDOT, but are now on track to have the project go out to bid this spring.
“We expect the consultant to start final design within the next week,” Evans said. “That part of the project is actually the preparation of the construction documents themselves, construction plans and specifications.”
The project includes the reconstruction of all sidewalks on East Main Street and East Broad Street. Evans said almost none of the current sidewalks are ADA compliant.
“Some of those sidewalks are 70 and 80 years old,” Evans said. “Some are even covered in dirt and debris and grass. Most are damaged and such.”
Evans said delays with TDOT were caused by state offices being closed. Once construction starts, Evans said projects like this take about six months to complete.
“The review process of our initial design and environmental portion of the project to longer than normal for TDOT to review,” Evans said. “That was obviously due to the COVID situation.”
Kimley-Horn and Associates will lead the planning process.
