Jackson County EMA Public Information Officer Ethan Burris said crews responded to Flynn’s Creek Road early Wednesday morning.

“Dispatch received a call about a diver that hasn’t come back up to the level ground,” Burris said. “We currently have crews here from Jackson County and Hamilton County. We also have some specialized personnel coming in from Florida and Arkansas.”

Burris said the layout of the cave gives hope that the unidentified person is still alive.

“There are several air pockets and we are also being told that he’s a very experienced diver,” Burris said.

Burris said search crews from Arkansas and Florida will arrive later this afternoon. He said residents should stay away from the Flynn’s Creek Road area while the search is going on.

A press release indicates the diver first went missing Tuesday afternoon after he didn’t surface with the rest of his team.
