Cumberland County Issues State of Emergency

Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster has declared a state of emergency ahead of potentially severe weather.

Crossville-Cumberland County EMA reports over two inches of rain has fallen in Crossville alone Saturday, breaking the previous record set in 1962.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for most of the county through Saturday night. NWS estimates at least half an inch of rain could fall in the area with wind gusts up to 30 mph.

Inclement weather has already damaged one lane of Highway 70 between Crab Orchard and Ozone. Weather has also closed Old Highway 28 just south of Hinch Mountain.
