Crossville’s Thursdays At The Amp Cancelled

Crossville’s 8th annual Thursdays at the Amp concert series won’t take place this summer.

The weekly event was going to begin the first Thursday of July and extend until August. Downtown Crossville Inc. President Lainie Luse said after the Governor’s extended mandate, board members decided to cancel the concert series.

“We just decided that basically the negatives outweigh the positives, and it just wasn’t worth the risk,” Luse said. “We didn’t want to put anybody in jeopardy, and we just didn’t feel like that was a position we should put ourselves in.”

Luse said the free concert event hosts bands both locally and regionally. She said Thursdays at the Amp gives a sense of community to attendees.

“You have people of all ages that come out,” Luse said. “You have a lot of seniors all the way down to little kids, families, and it’s just a really, really fun event.”

Normally bands play every Thursday evening in June and July. Luse said as a precaution, it was scheduled ahead to July and August. She said other downtown events have been cancelled for the rest of the summer.

Before cancelling, social distancing plans were going to be put in place. Luse said this included painting lines on the grass to keep family groups six feet apart.

“Ultimately, you can’t make people do it,” Luse said. “I just don’t think people in our area are doing it a lot.”
