Crossville Set To Vote On Measure To Expand City Council

Crossville officials will be voting on a measure next week to expand the number of city council members from 5 to 7.

Crossville Mayor James Mayberry said the city council requested state lawmakers to allow the move to happen earlier this year. Lawmakers approved the request during legislative session.

“In the past, we’ve had times where we ended up with a lot of 3-2 votes where two or three council members are kind of running the show and not being a true democracy,” Mayberry said. “We are hoping by having 7 members total that we would be able to make it a little more democratic.”

Mayberry said it would be an additional expense for the city due to the salary each council members make.

The council will vote on a resolution to expand the city council membership on Tuesday.
