Clay County authorities are searching for a Crossville man wanted for kidnapping and violating the sex offender registry.

Clay County Sheriff Brandon Boone said 57-year-old George Hardin escaped authorities in Celina Sunday.

“Cumberland County had a reported kidnapping. Later on [Sunday] afternoon, the suspect had pulled into a convenience store here in Celina,” Boone said. “The victim had managed to escape the vehicle and get into the store. The suspect then left the store at that point and headed west on Highway 52.”

Boone said Hardin escaped in the area of Chad Grace Road and Estis Sims Road on the west end of the county.

Hardin is described as a 5-foot, 10-inch white male with gray hair and blue eyes, weighing approximately 205 lbs, with tattoos on both arms. Boone reports Hardin may be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information on Hardin’s whereabouts should contact authorities immediately. Hardin was added to the sex offender registry in 1981 for rape and is classified as violent.
