Crossville Man Charged with DUI After Attempted Pedestrian Strike

Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies responded late last night to reports of a driver attempting to hit a pedestrian on Sullivan Drive in Crossville. Deputies stopped the subject vehicle at Central Baptist Church and spoke with the driver, 20-year-old Avery Lee Conley of Crossville, who reportedly smelled of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet.

Conley, who admitted to drinking two shots of liquor before driving, failed a field-sobriety test. He was taken to Cumberland County jail, charged with DUI and placed under $2,000 bond. His court date is set for November 5.

A passenger in Conley’s vehicle, 19-year-old Chase Ryan Hill, also of Crossville, admitted he’d drunk several beers. Hill was cited for underage drinking and released to a sober licensed driver. He is due to appear in court November 26.
