Crossville Discusses Adding More Council Members

Crossville’s City Council might consider adding a few more council members in the future.

At a work session last night Councilwoman Pamela Harris said she wants to up the current five member council to seven in the future.

“To me, it would give an opportunity for more people inside the city to be represented,” Harris said. “Even from a female prospective, it might even open the doors more more qualified women who might want to run.”

Harris said she is one of the first females to ever serve on Crossville’s City Council.

City Attorney Will Ridley told council members if they chose to add more council members, that the resolution would have to be presented to the legislature, then returned to council to be placed on a referendum.

Last night the council agreed to place the item on next week’s agenda for consideration.
