Putnam Planning Commission Approves County Exec. Change

The Putnam County Planning Committee voted Tuesday to officially change County Executive Randy Porter’s title to County ‘Mayor’.

Porter says changing the title helps eliminate confusion for those unfamiliar with the Executive title.

“Everywhere I go, most of the other counties have the county ‘mayor’ and looking at new businesses coming in, it’s confusing for them,” Porter says. ” They don’t understand the difference and a lot of the times they think an executive is an appointed position. I think it’ll work well for us and is something we should’ve done a long time ago.”

The State of Tennessee passed the Private Act in the early 2000s officially designating the position as a county ‘mayor,’ but Putnam County declined to adhere to the Act.
