Cookeville’s DeBerry Heights Pump Station Delayed

Cookeville’s DeBerry Heights Pump Station project running into delays due to difficulty getting parts.

Water Quality Control Director Barry Turner said work has been ongoing trying to replace the existing pump station. He said the work will improve safety conditions and capacity at the pump station.

“The contractor’s been delayed, he’s been having difficulty getting the parts he needs and he’s been submitting a lot of alternatives to try to get some parts that would work,” Turner said. “And so we’re going to be delayed by about 100 days. We’re going to add 100 days to this change order.”

Turner said it is a $1,277,000 project. He said they are going to deduct $5,000 from the contractor’s agreement to cover the delays.

Turner said when the project was first proposed, they had already anticipated the potential for work to be delayed about 60 to 90 days. He said they considered delaying the work altogether, but they needed to try and get the main station up and running.

“So we kept pushing on that but unfortunately we’ve had these other days,” Turner said. “So hopefully this should be running by the end of this month.”
