Cookeville Police to Work Overtime until Labor Day

In conjunction with the Booze It and Lose It campaign, Cookeville Police Officers will work overtime until Labor Day.

Captain Bobby Anderson said the Police Department will increase impaired-driving enforcement during this period.

“Well, we received a grant from the office to pay our officers overtime to patrol the streets to concentrate on areas we see a high number of arrests,” Anderson said. “Those areas would be mostly state roads, such as South Jefferson and South Willow, some areas of 10th Street. ”

Roads coming into the town remain a priority, Anderson said.

Anderson said the amount of overtime depends on a few factors.

“That is going to be dependent on which officers are working,” Anderson said. “Depending on the funds that are provided and allocated for the grant.”

As part of the campaign, the police department will increase sobriety checkpoints and high visibility enforcement throughout the city.

“We are partnering up with the Tennessee Highway Patrol Safety Office to increase impaired-driving enforcement in an effort to reduce crashes,” Anderson said. “And to help put the word out that you don’t drive drunk.”

Anderson said he wants people to know the consequences of driving while under the influence.

A single DUI in Tennessee can include fines, court costs, jail time, drug and alcohol treatment, and the installation of an ignition interlock device.

The Booze It and Lose It program takes place from August 17 through September 2.
