Cookeville Council Approves Walnut Park Lease

The Cookeville City Council approved a 15-year lease with Cookeville’s First Baptist Church to improve access to Walnut Park.

The city will lease the back corner of the parking lot at the corner of Walnut Avenue and Spring Street. The city create a hard-surfaced path in that area to connect the parking lot to the existing park entrance. The city will pay the church $1 per year for the lease.

City Manager James Mills said the current entrance to the park does not meet ADA requirements.

Council also approved a change order to build out the third floor at the new Cookeville Police Department. The addition will cost some $535,935 and add roughly two months to the construction timeline.

City council members had asked to consider the build out now rather than deal with the issue later.

Storage units for the new facility were also approved. The total cost set at nearly $291,000.

The council approved a bid of $16,900 to replace the roof on Cookeville Fire Station Four. The England Drive facility has been dealing with leaks for over a year.
