Cookeville Council Approves First Reading On Buffalo Valley Rezoning

Cookeville City Council approved the rezoning of some 10.2 acres on Buffalo Valley Road to RS-5 Thursday night.

Developers plan to build 41 homes on the undeveloped land just west of Holladay Road with an average lot size of just under 9,000 square feet. The unanimous first reading vote would change the zoning from RS-10.

Planning Director Jon Ward said the development would be similar to that of the Cross Pointe subdivision, built at the corner of Old Sparta Road and Bob Bullock Road.

No citizens spoke during the public hearing portion of the meeting on the rezoning. The planning commission approved the rezoning.

City Council also approved the purchase Fortinet firewall and network monitoring appliances. The city will also update its anti-virus software for the next 36 months. The Carbon Black software will cost the city some $44,000.

The Public Works Department will move forward with the purchase of an excavator and tractor with side mower. Council also agreed to extend the lease of four motorcycles for the police department. The city will make a $138,000 second-year payment on 60 in-car and body camera systems.
