Cookeville City Hall HVAC Work Underway

Work is well underway on a new HVAC system at Cookeville City Hall.

Cookeville City Manager James Mills said the project began June 22 and has gone well to this point. He said disruptions to city business has been minimal.

“It varies from day-to-day,” Mills said. “I think noise would be the biggest disruption. Although, we may have people who have to vacate their individual office space as the units are installed, but it’s been kept at a minimum.”

Mills said the project is scheduled to be complete by October 22.

The Cookeville City Council awarded CHC Mechanical of Cookeville a $517,000 bid to replace the heating and cooling system at City Hall in June. Around $18,000 of the bid goes to installing new dropped ceilings LED lighting around city hall, as well.

The project has been long-planned by the City of Cookeville. Mills said some of the system dates back to the opening of City Hall.

“Some portions of it are as old as the building,” Mills said. “So, over 50-years in age. It’s been in need of replacement for many years. We’re thankful the council approved the funds so we could do this. It’s over a half-million dollars, but it’s extensive in that it is the entire City Hall. The whole system will be replaced.”
