Controversial Billboard Prompts Fundraising Campaign

A controversial billboard sparked a Cookeville woman to start a fundraising campaign.

The billboard supporting President Trump’s travel ban went up recently on I-40 near the Jefferson Avenue exit. It’s sponsored by the Tennessee Pastors’ Network.

Resident Julia Gruber didn’t like the billboard’s message.

“It does not stand for what I think Cookeville is, I don’t think we’re anti-Muslim people, we are welcoming,” Gruber said.

She’s created a fundraising campaign on Gofundme.com. In 12 hours, she raised enough money to buy a billboard for a month.

The Tennessee Pastors’ Network hasn’t responded to requests for comment.
