Committee To Build School Calendar In Putnam County

A 16-member committee will recommend a new three-year academic calendar for the Putnam County School System.

Superintendent Jerry Boyd said approval of the calendar will come earlier than past years.

“Families had a concern because we don’t have a calendar published in the fall as their planning their next vacation in the fall,” Boyd said. “During the last year of the three-year calendar, they’re planning fall break for the next year. In past years, our calendar hasn’t been passed until December, so we’re trying to bump that up.”

The board appointed members to the calendar committee during a meeting last month.

School board member Kim Cravens said a few students could be involved with the process as well.

“I’d like it to be noted that an invitation be extended to the three high schools for maybe a student council participant to be on that committee as well,” Cravens said.

Boyd hopes to have the calendar presented to the board of education for approval by September 5th. A list of the appointed committee members can be found on the Putnam County School System’s website.
