Commissioners To Undergo Training As Part Of New State Law

New county commission members across the state will be required to undergo eight hours of training as part of a new state law.

Putnam County Executive Randy Porter said he believes the new training requirement will be beneficial to the new members.

“I think the more education that the commissioners can get when it comes to what their jobs are and how county government operates…I think it will be beneficial,” Porter said.

The County Technical Advisory Service (CTAS) will be provide the training session later this month in Murfreesboro or online at the beginning of September. Current sitting commissioners will not be required to take part in the training session.

In addition to the CTAS training, Porter will be holding an orientation for new and current county commission members on August 27th.

“We will spend a couple of hours with them and get them enough information about what’s going on in the county and things to expect as far as policy and procedures,” Porter said.

Putnam County will have 12 new county commissioners following Thursday’s election.

“This is the third straight term that this has happened, but I’m always excited to work with the new commission and new members coming in,” Porter said. “The past commission did a good job and we got a lot accomplished.”

New commissioners will be sworn in on Friday, August the 31st.
