Commission Votes To Split Former Anchor Down Site

The site of the former Anchor Down restaurant might be split into three commercial lots.

Cookeville Planning Commissioners approved the proposal Monday, despite knowing that property sits on a sinkhole retention area.

Planning Director James Mills said the city will place stipulations on the 9.5-acre property because of that.

“Since the structures have been removed, they’re subject to our requirements for sinkhole retention areas,” Mills said. “Before anything new is built there, they’ll have to have an engineering study done to prove that what they want to do will not cause any problems with flooding in the area.”

Senior Planner Ken Young said developers will not be required to provide additional right-of-way or sidewalks along Interstate Drive.

“There’s and STP development underway that will cover this area with sidewalks,” Young said. “That won’t be a requirement at the development stage.”

Cookeville City Council will consider the planning commission’s recommendation later this year.

The request to split the property was presented by Tommy Fitzgerald, Ricky Fitzgerald, and Nick Bresaw of B & F Investments.
