Celina Approves TDEC ARP Fund Resolution

Celina Board of Alderman has approved a resolution to apply for its TDEC and American Rescue Plan funds.

Mayor Luke Collins said the money will be used for water and sewer upgrades in the city. He said the county is funneling a portion of its TDEC funds to extend water to Add Stafford Road.

“Now in our priority list and the things that we had, Add Stafford was not at the top of our list,” “But in order for the city to get that $600,000 from the county, the Add Stafford is simply what we have to do.”

Cedar Hill Road is also on the city’s list to extend water.

Collins said the city itself received some $700,000 from TDEC. He said the city’s priority is to continue working to get sludge build-up out of the sewer plant.

Collins said there were also safety issues at the water and sewer plants that have since been taken care of. He said that the city may be able to get reimbursed with TDEC money for those safety upgrades.

“Some of you may or may not remember but we did have an employee who drowned at our sewer plant probably in 1980,” Collins said. “Obviously we don’t want that to happen again. Not for an employee, not for a child, nobody. To my knowledge those safety issues have been addressed so it’s a lot safer now.”

Collins said the resolution simply affirms the city agrees to do Add Stafford Road water extension with the county’s portion of funding.
