Candidates In For August; Monterey Most Contested

The candidates are in for local elections after Thursday’s noon deadline.

House Representative Ryan Williams will be challenged in the republican primary by Dennis Bynum. No democrat filed in the August 6th race for the 42nd district. Congressman John Rose filed in the sixth congressional district and Rose stands unopposed.

In Monterey’s race for Alderman, ward one and ward three seats will be contested. Julie Bohannon, Amy Callahan Martin and Stephen Murray will vie for the ward one seat. In ward three, James Foster and James Wolfgram will face off. JJ Reels will challenge Bill Wiggins for the town mayor.

The Algood council race includes two seats available among four candidates: Ronald Graves, Luke Hill, Patt Judd and Tim McPherson.

Baxter will elect two council members from three eligible candidates, Ben Brewington, Jeff Herald, and Dustin Stanton.

School board incumbents in districts one, three and five will run unopposed.

In Cumberland County, two races will be contested. Joe Sherrill and Charley Wilson will face off in district six. The race for Cumberland County school board features incumbent Anita Hale and Brian McDonald vying for the district four seat.

Three candidates in White County have filed to run for the Republican primary in House District 43. Jerry Lowery, Bobby Robinson, and Paul Sherrell. Two candidates will vie for the district one seat on the White County School Board. Dave Haney faces Diana Haston. In district four, DeWayne Howard faces Richard McBride.
