The Bull and Thistle Pub in Gainesboro has announced that it will be closing in December as the building is being sold to a developer.
The Bull and Thistle Pub has called Gainesboro home since 2013. The Bull and Thistle Pub Owner Diana Mandli (Mand-lee) said she sold the building to Developer Marc Stengel because she saw how the development could uplift Gainesboro.
“There’s an evolution happening and to me the time just felt right,” Mandli said. “I would never have sold our building or our business to anybody that didn’t have a vision and knew where they were going to take it.”
Mandli said the business will be open through December 22nd. Mandli said this is the end of the chapter for The Bull but the book of Gainesboro is still left to be written.
“It’s been blood, sweat, tears, and absolute love,” Mandli said. “I love Gainesboro and our customers are fantastic. So many of them have become friends some even like family. I don’t even know where to begin to talk about our staff. We have been blessed with the best staff and incredible loyalty from our staff in an industry that is not particularly known for that.”
Mandli said the building will be turned into a restaurant. Mandli said The Bull was special to its original location and she does not have any plans to reopen it at a different location.
“Everybody knows that the original movie is better than the sequel,” Mandli said. “You know, sometimes you go see the sequel and you say gosh the original was perfect why did they feel like they needed to make this? That’s exactly the feeling I would have if I tried to recreate the bull somewhere else.”
Mandli said she has mixed emotions about closing the business. Mandli said the emotions will hit harder after the last live music performance is over.
