Blood Assurance Cookeville hosts its third annual Block Party Saturday.
Assistant Team Leader Jessie Phillips said the event is a way for Blood Assurance Cookeville to give back to the community and its donors.
“We feel really close to our donors, and they’re always looking for ways to reach out and help us,” Phillips said. “And so this is kind of our way of giving back at the same time. We just really want to reward and have everybody get to hang out and have a good time and celebrate the donors that are trying to help us help others.”
Phillips said the event will feature free food, live music, a bounce house, a car show, and giveaways. She said that donations usually go up around the time of the event, which is a good thing because donations can often stagnate over the summer.
“During the fall and spring while kids are in school, we go to high schools and a lot of kids come out and donate,” Phillips said. “But in the summer people tend to be busier and we don’t have kids in school, so donations tend to be down but traumas tend to be up.”
Phillips said is is important for them to celebrate their donors because they care about them personally. She said Blood Assurance enjoys being a member of the community and sees its donors as family.
“We really love supporting small businesses, and we know we’re kind of a branch and not the home office, but people come in and they know us by name, we wave to them at the front door, we see them at the grocery store, we feel like these are our people.”
Phillips said the event will be inside and in the parking lot of Blood Assurance Cookeville, at 155 West Broad Street, from 7 am to 3 pm.
