Avery Trace To Hold Armed Intruder Drill

Putnam County’s Avery Trace Middle School will hold an armed intruder drill Thursday.

Parents may be familiar with fire drills or tornado drills. Putnam County Schools Attendance Supervisor Corby King said an armed intruder drill helps students, faculty and staff know what to do if an armed intruder enters the building.

“We have to complete one armed intruder drill, annually, at the schools and that’s in coordination with the local law enforcement and that’s what Avery Trace will be completing on Thursday,” King said.

Parents were notified of the drill last week. King urged parents to talk to their children about following directions during drills.

“We try, the teachers and administrators talk about these so it won’t be a scary thing, it’s more that everyone knows so they don’t panic,” King said.

Parents are asked not to pick their child up during the drill. It will take place about 9:15 a.m.
