School Board Changes In Fentress Election

The people of Fentress County voted for change on the Board of Education. Only one incumbent running opposed retained her seat. Kathryn S. Williams was re-elected in District 5, defeating James Murphy 383-334. The only other incumbent retaining their seat was Felicia Owens Garrett in District 3 who received 458 complementary votes. Kim Logan was re-elected as the Assessor of Property in Pickett County Thursday night. Logan defeated Perry Garrett 879-453. Absentee Ballots Cause Election Day Confusion

Putnam County Election Commission Administrator Michele Honeycutt said the state’s expanded absentee balloting is leading to unintended problems. Honeycutt said voters who requested absentee ballots are showing up to vote in person today. Election officials report that turnout for Thursday’s election has remained steady throughout the day. Shelter Seeks to Upgrade Cages

The Cookeville-Putnam County Animal Shelter wants to upgrade its small breed dog cages in the shelter’s puppy room. Shelter Director Jennifer Tracy said the current cages are a little too small. Grant Could Help Upgrade Overton Facilities

The Overton County Sheriff’s Department will apply for a $40,000 grant that can be used to help upgrade some of the county’s existing buildings.
