Baxter Receives Funds for Portobello Improvements

Officials from the U.S. Economic Development Administration awarded the City of Baxter a $1-million grant Monday to replace an 8-inch water line to the Portobello America site. After having to postpone its commencement ceremony earlier this year, Tennessee Tech will celebrate graduating seniors from both the Spring and Summer semesters on Saturday. Reels Defeats Wiggins in Monterey

J.J. Reels defeated Incumbent Bill Wiggins in the Monterey Mayor’s race Thursday night. Reels won with 57-percent of the vote. Monterey also saw two contested Board of Aldermen seats Thursday. Stanton and Herald Re-elected in Baxter

Dustin J. Stanton and Jeff Herald were re-elected to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen in Baxter. Stanton and Herald were the two top vote-getters in Thursday’s election. Steve Pierce easily won re-election as Putnam County Property Assessor Thursday night. Pierce defeated his opponent Lewis Tommaso 6341-1485.
