ATMS To Replace Doors To Be In Compliance With New Regulations

Avery Trace Middle School will go through the process to replace seven doors in the older part of the school building.

Putnam Schools Deputy Director Tim Martin said this comes as the result of a recent executive order by the governor. The order is being enforced by the state fire marshal’s office. He said the order dictates that all interior doors in a school must be able to latch from the inside.

“The center part of Avery Trace around the library area there’s three or four rooms and the library itself that are basically storefront doors that don’t have latches on them,” Martin said. “So we’re just having to remove those doors and put new doors in their place that can be latched and locked.”

Martin said to his knowledge, Avery Trace is the only school in the system that will need to get new doors. He said the project will cost some $15,000.

Martin said they will have to wait until all of the correct parts come in before replacing the doors. He said they expect that to happen quickly.
