Algood United Methodist Church Renovations Progressing

Algood United Methodist Church hoping to complete renovations to its building by March.

Pastor Albert Willis said the process has taken over two years. He said because the church was built in 1899, it was a large undertaking to renovate the roof, the outside walls, and the church’s inside.

“They had never had ever taken all the boards off that outside it was really a mess,” Willis said. “We have these big bushes all around the church and they were causing water rot in parts of the outside of the building, so we decided to cut those down.”

Willis said work on a new mural will begin inside the church in just a few weeks. He said they will also create a booth congruent with the aesthetic of the old church’s decor for audio and visual purposes.

Willis said the more than $60,000 renovations were made possible through the generosity of those in the congregation and those without. He said many see the church as a landmark and realize its value and importance to the community.
