Algood Makes Plans for White Plains Historical House

The City of Algood will begin working on plans for the White Plains Historical House in the coming weeks.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said Algood will start meeting with historians and developers to establish a renovation plan.

“The plan is to get with Mark Dudney in the Development District and look at what the possibilities are for renovations needs are with a historian,” Morrison said. “Who can tell us what the most pressing needs are and how we can achieve those without damaging the historical value of the home or its history itself.”

Morrison said the city needs to protect the home while still making it accessible to the public.

“So one of the key factors for us upfront is going to be securing the outside of the home from weather elements and making sure it can withstand the weather first,” Morrison said. “And then next, we will work on parking and restrooms and access to the home.”

Algood hopes to use the White Plains Home in the September Quilt Festival, Morrison said.

The City of Algood bought the White Plains Historical House during the last fiscal year.
