Active Rules Committee for Future of Putnam

Putnam County Commission Chair Mike Atwood said last week it would benefit the commission to review the county rules.

Atwood said he hopes there would not be any reluctance to review county rules and regulations by those elected to serve. Atwood said his suggestion for an active rules committee is about being prepared for the future.

“Lets look at it, is there anything we need to tweak, times change, you know technology is different,” Atwood said. “Thought patterns are different, so I think it’s just a great idea to review it.”

Atwood said he had not received any feedback after mentioning an active rules committee. Atwood said he does not have any specific rules he wants looked at, just to make sure that county business is being done the best it can be.

“I think as chair, I want to review everything we do and make sure that it’s done to the best that we can do it,” Atwood said. “My suggestion was only for that, let’s just make that a part of it, let’s look and see if we need to change anything .”

However, Atwood did cite previous rule changes that have been made. Like the change from County Executive to County Mayor.

“We also changed the rule that limited the Budget Committee to only two year terms,” Atwood said. “There’s been some changes in the last several years to our rules and so again, my thought is let’s look at them and see if there’s anything else we want to address.”

Mike Atwood serves District 12 in Putnam County.
