Monterey Park Presenting Mountain Bike Movie

Monterey is partnering with the Upper Cumberland SORBA Bike Club to present a movie this Saturday at Meadow Creek Park.

The movie being shown is a mountain biking film called Ritual. Outdoor Experience and Meadow Creek Park Outpost Manager Ian Stewart said the park is playing the movie to promote the biking trails within the park.

“This is just a great way to bring those trails to people’s attention and get more bikers out there using it,” Stewart said. “And get people that may be interested in cycling but have been a little bit nervous about where to start. A chance to come out and meet their local community and visit with them and get some questions answered.”

Meadow Creek Park hosts an intro to mountain biking classes once a month to encourage newcomers to mountain biking. Stewart said outdoor recreation is a big part of Meadow Creek Park.

“Outdoor recreation is one of the biggest tourism activities that we have,” Stewart said. “So it’s one of the number one ways that we can bring in people from out of state and have them spend money with us and help our local economy and it’s a great way for those of us that do live here to get out and enjoy our own backyard.”

Stewart said not many people are aware of the drastic changes at Meadow Creek Park.

“This park is a hidden gem of our region,” Stewart said. “It’s a 200-acre facility that is still a very primitive park and just has so many ways to explore.”

Stewart said the movie is a good way to explore nighttime uses for the park and expand access to the community. The movie has an $8 admission fee. The Cookeville Cavalier NICA team will be fundraising during the movie by selling tickets for a chance to win a mountain bike. The movie will begin on Saturday, August 31st at 8:30 PM.
