Byrdstown installing two new sewer pumps at the town’s pumping station after the previous pumps failed a month ago.
Byrdstown Mayor Sam Gibson said the first pump is installed but the station has electrical issues and is preventing the second pump from being installed. Gibson said even though the town is currently running on one pump the sewer system should be fine.
“One pump will run the station,” Gibson said. “The only thing is it’s much better if you got both pumps there and they kind of rotate back and forth. It saves the life of the pump and it also makes sure that you got a backup.”
Gibson said they are in the process of troubleshooting the electrical issues at the station and hope to get the pump installed soon. Gibson said once the second pump is installed the pressure will be taken off his shoulders.
“It will be good when do get all of that in,” Gibson said. “And to feel like a little bit of pressure is off of us by making sure that we do have that backup on there and in service.”
