Alvin C. York State Park Seeking Interns For Tour Guides And Archivist Work

The Alvin C. York State Park is looking for paid interns to fill a variety of jobs from helping with maintenance to guiding tours.

Interns would help cover weekend shifts, help with daily treks through the York home, and assist with the programs and events hosted at the park. They also need some to help with basic maintenance and assisting the museum archivist. York State Park’s Cassie Kazmark said there are a wide variety of jobs for an intern to do.

“It is with the state so that is a great thing on your resume to have there,” Kazmark said. “We also offer park housing for free, so that really helps draw quite a few people. Its pretty nice housing. It’s an actually house. So, those are some pretty big draws to the position itself.”

Kazmark said the park hopes to have the positions filled in the next two to three weeks. Reach out to the state park office to apply.

“We do have a small farm out here, so we would prefer anybody who might be interested in that too,” Kazmark said. “We look for a wide array, but we also will take just about anybody if they can prove they have the necessary qualifications there. If they really love history or know quite a bit about Alvin or World War 1, and they have a passion they can prove to us there. That is something we definitely prefer.”

Kazmark said the passion for history is important, as interns will be helping produce historical programs over farming, Tennessee history, and more.

“This is a pretty great opportunity for anybody that’s looking to go into museum, archival work, state park work,” Kazmark said. “If we have anybody out there who’s looking to be a ranger in the future. This is a great way to get the ball rolling and get started and figure out what those next steps are as you continue on looking for your career.”

One intern position will be filled in the coming weeks. Kazmark said the park will be hiring another intern in the spring and two more in the summer.
