Obituaries For Monday, July 17

Mrs. Pansy Bowling, 93 of Cookeville died Sunday July 16, 2023 at her home. Arrangements are pending.

David Allen Norris, age 68 of Sparta, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital in Sparta. He was born November 25, 1954 in Sparta, and he was the son of the late Alfred Norris and the late Ima Tollison Norris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Karen West and his brother, Timothy Todd. Survivors include: Daughter- Amber Norris of Sparta; Grandchildren- Raelyn, Janiyah and Roman; Brothers- Charles Norris of Sparta, TN and Russell Norris of Sparta; Sisters- Wanda Coffman of Sparta, and Charlene Carter of AL. The family has chosen cremation. No services are scheduled at this time.

Graveside service for Mildred Haile Carter, 95 of Cookeville, will be conducted at 11 am on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Granville Cemetery with Bro. Clarence Deloach officiating. She was born February 27, 1928 in Jackson County, and she passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at her residence in Cookeville. She was the daughter of L. Russ and Bessie Allen Haile. She has a 35 year career with the Jackson County Bank and lived most of her 95 years in Granville where she was an active member of the community. She loved her family, growing beautiful flowers, knitting, crocheting and travel. She visited all 50 U.S. states, many Canadian provinces and transited the Panama Canal. Mrs. Carter was a member of the Willow Ave Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by parents, husband, Alton Carter who died Sept. 8, 2009; daughter, Jeannie Carter Sprague; siblings, Evelyn Haile, Avo Haile Chambers, James Haile and William Haile. Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Carter Dudney of Cookeville; grandchildren, Joshua Sprague (Samantha Earnhardt) of NC and Katie Sprague Larson of NC; great grandchildren, Nathan Teague, Kimberly Larson, Brandon Earnhardt and Evie Earnhardt all of NC. Nieces and nephews also survive along with many friends. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, 10 am to 11 am at Granville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Willow Meals at Willow Ave Church of Christ or Granville Cemetery by contacting the funeral home.

Celebration of life and graveside service for Daisy Mae Moss, 79 of Baxter, will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 11 AM at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Baxter, with Bro. David Eldridge officiating. She went to her heavenly home on July 16, 2023. Daisy Mae (Howard) Moss was born on March 17, 1944 in Putnam County to the late Frank and Mary Evelyn “Eva” Randolph Howard. Daisy was the youngest daughter of their seven children. She was preceded in death by both parents and her siblings: Winnie Howell, Menervia Whitehead, Mersuda Scarlett, Mollie Ehrie, Frankie Maynard, and David Howard. Daisy was married to the late Dewey Elmer Moss on June 30, 1961. They were married for 59 years. Dewey passed away on February 9, 2021. They had three children-son Darryl (Judy) Moss; daughters, Dana (Terry) Fields, and Daphne (Mark) Rippetoe; grandchildren (11): Jason (Cindy) Harris, Jeni Lackey, Candice Bates, Ty (Morgan) Fields, Teah (Cody) Smith, Savannah (Tanner) Crain, and Chloe Rippetoe, great-grandchildren (13): Avery and Jaden; Peyton and Kenzie; Brock, Jude, Mack and Hattie; Sawyer, Lottie, Mabel and Frankie Mae; Riggins Lee. Daisy was a wonderful mother, wife and grandmother. Daisy was a life long member of Samaria Church of Christ. She was a loving and caring person with an infectious smile. Daisy was well known as an amazing cook and having a great eye for fashion. She had many interests and hobbies. Over the years she loved to travel, paint, design floral arrangements, sew, shop, decorate, karate, sing, and spend time with her family and friends. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines and the Red Hat Society. Daisy and Dewey spent many years growing tobacco and large gardens. Daisy was always up for a good time and trying new things. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Odd Fellows Cemetery Fund.

Funeral services for Kermith Willie Barlow better known as Butch Barlow, 72 of Gainesboro, will be conducted at 2 pm on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 in the chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Phillip Morgan and Bro. Mike Ayers officiating. Burial will follow in Berry Cemetery. He was born March 4, 1951 in Jackson County, and he passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at his residence in Gainesboro. He was the son of Owen Hilard Barlow and Ruby Pearl Ellis Barlow. Butch was a brick mason. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ricky Owen Barlow. Survivors include his son, Shannon (Jackie Locke) Barlow of Gainesboro; daughter, Lisa (Ray) Mahan of Cookeville; sisters, Sandy (Patrick) Heinrich of Gainesboro, Patsy Hawkins of Cookeville and Linda (Carl) Smith of Hilham; grandchildren, Blaise (Abby) Barlow and Kinsey (Nicholas) Lemmons; great grandchildren, Carolina Barlow, Lena Barlow and Jude Barlow. Visitation will be on Monday 4-8 pm and again on Tuesday, 10 am to 2 pm.

Funeral services for Paul Terry Netherton, age 76 of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, July 18, 2023, beginning at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Michael Giaimo officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. He passed from this life Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville. Born Monday, June 2, 1947, in Cookeville, he was the son of the late James and Wilma (Hutchings) Netherton. Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He enjoyed spending time with his family and worked 28 years at Wilson Sporting Goods in Cookeville, and also worked and retired from APCOM of Cookeville. Paul enjoyed gardening, yard work, and watching baseball and softball especially when his children played. His grandchildren were his world. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Anna (Taylor) Netherton of Cookeville; 2 daughters and Sons-in-law: Trish and Michael Giaimo of Cookeville, Jenny and Troy Furton of Cookeville; 5 grandchildren: Lauren, Tyler, Caleb, Gage, and Haylee; 3 great-grandchildren: Aubree, Paislee, and Oaklee; 2 sisters: Phyllis Stallion, Marie Johnson; A host of nieces and nephews; In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by1 son, Robert Netherton, 1 sister, Jean Daniels, 2 brothers, James and U.L. Netherton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, July 17, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and again on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the time of service at 2:00 pm.

Graveside services for Judy Carol Lambert, 67 of Gainesboro, will be on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at 11 am at Granville Cemetery with Bro. Randy Heady officiating. She was born July 20, 1955 in Jackson County, and she passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at her residence in Gainesboro. She was the daughter of Lewis R. Mize and Ruth Francis Henson Mize. She was a retired factory worker and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church and also the director of the New Hope Baptist Church Bus Ministry. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jeff Lambert, sons, Greg Lambert and Eric Lambert. Survivors include her brothers, Ray Mize of Gainesboro and Bill Mize of Cookeville. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, 4-8 pm at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church Bus Ministry by contacting the funeral home.

Services for Mr. Jessie Joe Brown age 85 of Livingston, will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 from the Walnut Grove Church of Christ at 12 Noon. He passed from this life on Thursday, July 13, 2023 from the Overton Co. Health and Rehab. Survivors are his wife Nancy Jeanette Brown of Livingston; 2 Daughters: Teresa Gail Brown Kelly, Tammy Denise Brown Pass; 4 Grandchildren:Catherine Elizabeth Sage and her husband David, Michael Joseph Kelly and his wife Meagan, Tyler Van Pass, Lydia Marie Pass 1 Sister: Janice Loftis. The family will welcome friends at the Walnut Grove Church of Christ on Wednesday morning, July 19th starting at 10 AM.

A funeral service for Barbara Ann Dalton, 75 of Crossville, will be at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Presley Funeral Home with David Campbell and Mitchell Payne officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery, Cookeville. She passed on Friday, July 14, 2023, at home while surrounded by loved ones. Born Tuesday, September 30, 1947 in Knoxville, she was the daughter of the late Howard Flanigan and the late Lilian Beeler Flanigan. She was the wife of Garland Dalton for 42 loving years. Barbara is remembered for her generous and loving heart. Her family was always in her heart, and it was well-known that her biggest assets were her grandbabies and great-grandbabies. Her home was open to everyone, from all her descendants to the church youth group and even a women’s club. Barbara was so happy that her home was the place to go for flying kites, fishing, four-wheeling, skipping rocks, shooting off fireworks, and enjoying her incredible country cooking. Her family wholeheartedly agrees that she was the best cook ever. Barbara spent lots of time in her flower garden, raising beautiful roses, iris, and lilies. When she was young, Barbara worked as a waitress in her mother’s diner at the Ashway Truckstop. She also worked on the production line at Levi’s. For 25 years, Barbara and her husband ran Double Dream Kennels, raising and breeding crosses of Yorkies, Maltese, Pomeranians, Poodles, Labradors, Mastiffs, Pugs, Dachshunds, and Basset Hounds. Above all, Barbara was most proud of her career as a homemaker, putting as much love as she could into her children and creating so many wonderful memories. Barbara is survived by: husband, Garland Dalton; children, Lori (David) Campbell of Cookeville, Rebecca Brock of Knoxville, Alfred (Rebekah) Beeler Jr of Crossville, Preston (Brandi) Dalton of Franklin, Roma (Mitchell) Payne of Tellico Plains, all of TN; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Donna Green of Knoxville, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Presley Funeral until time of service at 12:30 PM.

A memorial service for Mrs. Susan Lin Schmitt, age 71 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, July 29th at 4:00pm at Boma First Church of God in Baxter. Rev. Tim Sharp will officiate. Mrs. Schmitt died Friday June 30, 2023 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born December 21, 1951 in McKeesport, PA to the late J. Howard and Sue (Lloyd) McKee. Susan worked in supermarkets throughout her life, most recently at Kroger in Cookeville where she worked for 12 years until her retirement. She was a member of Boma First Church of God near Baxter and a member of Eastern Star Cookeville Chapter #152. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Frank Schmitt; sons, James (Kathy) Schmitt of Gary, Indiana, Sean (Melanie) Schmitt of Bourbonnais, Illinois and Scott Schmitt, of Cookeville; grandchildren, Matthew, Brendan and Andrew Schmitt; and by brothers, Richard McKee and Jeffrey (Collette) McKee. Her family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00pm until service time at the church.
