Dale Hollow Lake’s two eaglets currently struggling being wrapped in a fishing wire.
Eagle Cam Administrator Darlene Neeley said eagle River had brought a fish up to the nest, including the line, hook, and bait. She said this happened a few years ago, and River was able to untangle the line and the eaglets were fine.
“But now we’ve got a bunch of viewers which is good that we’ve got them, we’ve got about 51,000 viewers,” Neeley said. “But they want us to climb that tree and rescue those babies. They think we don’t care, but let me tell you we all care.”
Neeley said they have been in contact with TWRA about what to do next should they need human intervention. She said there is concern for the safety of humans having to climb the tree, for the safety of the eaglets, and for the structural integrity of the nest.
Neeley said she knows there are people concerned with the birds’ safety. She said the stewards of the camera and site Facebook are also deeply concerned, but want to make sure they do as little as they can to interfere with wildlife.
