800-Pound Hog Struck and Killed on I-40 Saturday

A hog being transported by a pickup truck and trailer was struck and killed on I-40 Saturday morning.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports the trailer door opened near mile marker 284 traveling eastbound, causing the male boar hog to fall out.

The hog was then struck by the vehicle of 28-year-old Gregory Parker, of Cookeville, then again by 28-year-old Jill Bittner, of New Jersey.

The hog was killed in the accident and came to a rest in the right lane of I-40 eastbound. The lane was closed until TDOT officials removed the 800-pound hog with a front-end loader.

Parker’s vehicle had to be towed from the scene while Bittner and her passenger, 28-year-old John Bittner of New York, drove away. No person was injured during the accident.
