500 Laptops Arrive In Jackson Co.

Five hundred Chromebooks for student use have arrived in Jackson County after being ordered in June.

Director of Schools Kristy Brown said the Board of Education’s foresight has allowed students to receive the technology in time while other school systems continue to wait for supplies.

“We went ahead and made the purchase,” Brown said. “One of the major reasons is to be sure we have them sooner. I do know other districts have struggled and still do not have theirs.”

Brown said she has applied for a $33,000 technology grant to help offset the costs. Students will be able to use the new Chromebooks starting next week.

“I have applied for a technology grant with the department of education,” Brown said. “Hopefully, we will be able to reimbursed for some of the costs.”
