210 Cases Of Flu Reported At CRMC

The number of confirmed flu cases are on the rise across the Upper Cumberland.

Cookeville Regional Medical Center Infectious Disease Physician Mark Pierce said over the past six weeks the hospital has seen a sharp increase in the number of flu cases.

“We’ve seen 210 cases so far this season, which is a lot for this early in the season,” Pierce said. “The CDC reports that there has been about five weeks of widespread flu activity and typically in a season we will have 13 weeks of widespread flu activity, so it’s a lot early on but we don’t know for sure what’s going to happen.

Pierce is recommending everyone to get vaccinated while they can and to stay home if you have an influenza like illness.

Physicians at DeKalb County’s Family Medical Center have confirmed more than 100 cases of the flu this season.
