19 Kindergarten Students Enrolled In Capshaw Lottery

Nineteen kindergarteners from outside Capshaw Elementary’s attendance area applied for 20 available slots at the school.

Putnam County Schools Director Jerry Boyd said that made the process easy.

“We were able to allocate 20 potential slots and we had 19 applications so it was a very easy process in that respect,” Boyd said.

Some 70 families who live within Capshaw’s zone had enrolled their students for kindergarten. That left about 40 slots open. School officials held a lottery for 20 of those spots.

“We put 20 in so we’ll go with the 19 that are out of the zone and we’ll have one additional seat for anyone who moves into the zone over the school year,” Boyd said.

Capshaw’s enrollment has long been restricted.
