Byrdstown Mayor Sam Gibson said Hwy 111 is now safer in Byrdstown, thanks to assistance from T-DOT.
Gibson said T-DOT has helped with the safety issues by adding more turning lanes. Gibson said aldermen had been requesting T-DOT assistance to reduce accidents.
“It is a heavily traveled area,” Gibson said. “The route from Cookeville to Lexington is coming right up 111 right through Byrdstown so we have a lot of truck traffic. On the bypass, we have a lot of roads a lot of businesses there and very few turning lanes.”
Gibson said he believes the new turning lanes will make the route safer overall.
“That will be a big safety help for Byrdstown and Pickett County there,” Gibson said. “And so they have made some improvements and we are really tickled and thankful to TDOT for doing that.”
