Trout Fishing Coming To Monterey Plus New Opportunities At Meadow Creek Park

Trout fishing is coming to Monterey.

The TWRA will begin stocking Rainbow Trout in the Meadow Creek Park Lake on December 13th as part of the agency’s Winter Trout Stocking Program.

The trout stocking comes right before some big plans that are set to take place at Meadow Creek Park.

Monterey Mayor Bill Wiggins said the city plans to use an Appalachian Regional Commission grant to add more recreational opportunities at the park.

“We’ve decided to make that a first-class park and destination to appeal to everyone,” Wiggins said. “We want families and individuals to have all sorts of challenges, whether they are hiking, biking, fishing, or boating.”

The master plan for the park includes improved parking, a canoe and kayak launch, fishing, and hiking trails.

Wiggins said expects the project to get underway by the start of the new year. The first phase of the project will involve improvements to Highway 62 to allow better access to the park.
