Stopping Human Trafficking Training This Week

Upper Cumberland EMS Directors want residents to be more aware of human trafficking.

They’re hosting a training Wednesday and Thursday at Hyder Burkes Pavilion.

Putnam County EMS Director Tommy Copeland said the training is perfect for anyone who comes into contact with the public. He said human trafficking can happen anywhere.

“There’s some of that pretty widely across the state and it’s not just a metro kind of problem, they’ve found a lot of this in rural counties as well,” Copeland said.

The training will be taught by TBI Special Agent Carlos Gutierrez, an expert in the field.

“TBI has done some studies and they’ve determined there’s some degree of human trafficking in Tennessee counties, it’s been on their radar for some time,” Copeland said.

The training begins at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Hyder Burkes Pavilion. The cost is $35.
