Monterey Planning To Reapply For Sewer Grant

Monterey officials have voted to once again apply for a Community Development Block Grant to help fund a sewer rehab project.

The town’s water and sewer committee voted to reapply for the grant last month and the city is expected to vote on an official resolution for the grant application next month.

Mayor Bill Wiggins said it’s part of a three pronged approach to address the city’s problematic sewer system.

“Number one, we need a new sewer plant and that money has already been secured,” Wiggins said. “We are also looking to rehab existing sewer lines and extending sewer to exits 300 and 301 and also establishing sewer services for residential areas that don’t have them right now.”

Wiggins said the town will consider using the state’s revolving loan fund to help pay for the extension of sewer to the underserved homes.

As far as the CDBG grant, Monterey has applied and failed to receive it for the past several years.
