Monterey Liquor Store Application Has No Opposition

No opposition was voiced against an application that allows a second store to sell liquor in Monterey.

The city held a public hearing for the application this week.

Despite no opposition, Mayor Bill Wiggins said the city has not yet awarded a certificate of compliance for the future Monterey Discount Liquor and Wine store on North Chestnut Avenue.

“We didn’t issue a certificate of compliance or occupancy because we need to have assurance that they have complied with the local codes before we do that,” Wiggins said.

Wiggins said the state alcoholic beverage commission is still reviewing another application for the old Rocky Pop’s Store to open a liquor store on Stratton Avenue.
