Middle School Sports Complex Coming To White Co.

White County Middle School will soon be the home of a new sports complex.

Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger held a town hall meeting to discuss the project Monday.

He said there’s enough land behind the middle school to build a football practice field, a soccer field, a baseball field, a softball field and an 80-car parking lot. The whole complex will be gated.

“We’re talking about building a very nice facility that our community can be proud of, we’re not just throwing fields out there that we’re going to be embarrassed by or that will detract from the school and detract from the neighborhood that it will harm any sort of property values or anything like that, we want this to be a really nice top-notch facility that our community and our schools will be proud of,” Dronebarger said.

They’ll be built to high school specifications, so White County could host tournaments in the future, he said. To access the fields, a road will be built around the school, which will help relieve traffic before and after school.

“It should help with congestion quite a bit, so this is answering an everyday problem for us as well as giving us access to athletic fields,” Dronebarger said.

Construction on the $2.5 million project will begin in December, Dronebarger said. The same architects and contractors will also build the new Findlay Elementary at the same time. He said taxes won’t have to be raised for the new school or sports complex.
