Fireworks Legal, But There’s Still Rules To Follow

Fireworks sales are booming across the state.

Cookeville Police Major Carl Sells said fireworks can be set off from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 1 to July 5. On Independence Day, fireworks can be set off up to midnight, he said.

There are some basic rules to follow.

“They can’t ignite or explode fireworks within 600 feet of a church, hospital, school, funeral home or within 200 feet of where fireworks are stored or sold,” Sells said.

It’s also illegal to set fireworks off around cars.

“It is illegal to shoot fireworks from a motor vehicle, or inside a motor vehicle or at a motor vehicle,” Sells said.

Those who live inside city limits throughout the Upper Cumberland need to check with your local government to find out the rules governing fireworks.
