Election Offices Reporting Low Early Voting Turnout

Very few people have taken the opportunity to vote early in the May first county primary election.

A total of 635 people have voted early in Overton County. Election Administrator Craig Story said a lack of opposition has led to the low turnout.

“I’ve got is one contested race, which is for the Democratic Register of Deeds and everything else is uncontested, ” Story said. “We do have several races that will be decided in August.”

Putnam County Election Administrator Debbie Steidle said 1,933 people have voted early, or less than 200 per day.

1,712 have voted Republican and 212 have voted Democratic.

Steidle also blamed the low turnout on a lack of opposition in the county primary races.

Early voting will be taking place until Thursday.
